Casting Worries

I am a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, which sometimes connotes not having the usual access to cash favours from parents. I should however state for the record that my parents are the best, very supportive and extra loving. Back to my story, I was posted last year and my call-up letter indicated the Federal Capital City, Abuja. The three mandatory weeks on camp rolled out and I was eager to redeploy, but due to lack of connections aka “leg” to pull the necessary strings and coupled with the “Abuja hype”,......

Whole to Love

Deedee, my sister, invited me to her church for a special program three years ago. I had just gotten out of a bad relationship, the third in 18 months. I was quite depressed and so I just decided to get out of my house even if it meant going to some ‘religious program’. I thought it couldn’t be all that bad since my sister was married to one of the best guys in the world. Maybe my man was in the church too. No. I didn’t meet “my man” there but I......

Now I See

Tarsus wasn’t different from any other suburb; actually, it was very popular and notable in its time for being a commercial hub for goods processing along the Mediterranean Sea. On one cold chilly morning, baby Pee was born into a wealthy tarsus household and immediately stole the love of his family. Dad and Mum had been much used to the Pharisaic traditions and thus raised him to become one of its bests. He had the very best of everything wanted. Gamaliel High School had one of its most outstanding students in Pee.......

The Prayer Ride

Waking up in the morning to pray, have a quiet time with God, seek his face about the day had always been a big challenge for the past few years. It has been one excuse or another. Back in school, it was either the morning lecture rush or the early morning assignment submissions. Now that I’m a grown up with a job, things seem to be getting worse. I always spend the morning saying my routine short prayers like “thank you father for this morning, my day is in your hands; bless......

The Lover Man

It was just a day… but not any another ordinary day. Peter could have sworn the nightmare he had was real notwithstanding the calm in the dark room he had tucked himself into. He tried to lift himself and felt the sharp bruises over his left shoulder. “John, James… are you there?” His question echoed into the dark of the room and no reply came through. The room seemed different, not the usual big cinnamon tree they all slept in the past days away from the Master’s tree. He became perplexed. Could......

Beyond Limitations - Cobhams Asuquo

“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” There is a common saying that when life gives you lemons, make lemonade out of it; when life throws you a seed, grow a tree out of it. One cannot continue to make excuses for his/her failure and hope to suddenly wake up to a net worth of $2 billion. Today’s aspirant represents hope, determination and light to youths and even adults in every cadre of life. Quickly and gradually transforming to......

Lost to Anger?

“You shouldn’t have spoken harshly to the cashier, Bosun. I’m sick and tired of your terrible temper!” Bimpe said to him as they got into his car from the supermarket. “I shouldn’t speak up and be cheated? What are you telling me? I work hard to get my money,” Bosun replied angrily, his baritone voice echoing in the car. “No one is disputing that fact, but try to take things easy. You just embarrassed me and yourself back in there. If you continue like this, we might have to stop going out......

Forgiveness

When it comes to forgiveness, I’m probably the biggest “fool” God created (pardon my use of that word). I endeavour to forgive ALL and WITH TIME never react to people based on past occurrences; just like a child. This doesn’t imply that I have never reacted badly towards people who hurt me (covers face). Forgiveness simply means not holding or bearing grudges in your heart against anyone who offended you.  Are you finding it difficult to forgive? If need be, weep and pray when the issues are tough and difficult to forgive......
